On August 21, 1879, apparitions of the Virgin Mary, St Joseph and St John the Evangelist appeared at the gable wall of Knock Parish Church in County Mayo. Since then Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa have been among the hordes of pilgrims to flock there.
